In 2008 Synfull started up a small news article series known as 'So I herd u liek emotes??' for the emote community. Over the course of the next 3 years she posted 125 separate articles in the series featuring recently submitted emotes along with covering a range of other emote related topics. Even with emotes, there are different types of news articles, such as interviews, art features, and Community Volunteer articles. Did you know... Emotication (https://www.deviantart.com/emotication) offers readily available information about various emoticon contests?
Various group accounts around deviantART host different emoticon-related contests, usually on a monthly basis. These contests usually revolve around a given theme, and those that do the best win the contest, usually along with numerous prizes.
Each group that holds contests has their own rules, themes, and prizes. Most groups accept prize donations as well, so if you feel like you don't want to participate in a current contest, you can donate a prize. Suitable prizes would include points, art / icon requests, prints, or journal features.

With Emoticons having it's own place in the larger Customization gallery, there is a Community Volunteer (CV) to help support the community, write occasional news articles, and choose Daily Deviations (DDs) for exceptional pieces from the emoticon gallery to be featured in various places on the site, such as the Today page, page footers, and Daily Deviation page.
Everyone can help take part in the Daily Deviation selection process, by suggesting DDs. To do this yourself, you can send a note to the current emote CV with a thumb of your
